Happy 17th Anniversary to my hubby, main squeeze and hunky dad of our four beautiful children! Way back in 1999, a senior at the University of South Carolina, I stumbled across this guy while working in a hospital and pretty much the rest in history. The stats: 17 years of marriage, 4 kids, 6 homes, 3 states and countless home projects. This hunk is a man of patience, a loving husband and father, and uber talented healthcare professional, not to mention self-taught carpenter and handy man!!
Married in 2000, we purchased our first home in 2001 and the projects began. Yes, BFU (Before Fixer Upper), before home projects were cool, we were rolling up our sleeves and renovating! Here are our homes and projects over the last 17 years:
2001 Home #1: Alpharetta, GA: Newlywed bliss and Firstborn!
Soon after we moved in the projects began and included:
tiling the kitchen floor
painting room after room after room
pouring an extension of the patio and edged it in slate, in the project we vowed to never do again (and we've stuck to that promise!)
updating our master bathroom with ceramic tile floors and tub surround backsplash
installing beadboard to the walls of our soon-to-be first born's nursery
A little over 24 months later, we moved when I was preggo with baby #2!
2004 Home #2: Cumming, GA: New Parents!
We moved in while 4 months pregnant and welcomed baby #2 and baby #3 at this address. A young family of 5, we stayed true to our renovation roots. Projects included:
Our first kitchen project management and renovation to include updated appliances, countertops and backsplash
installing 1x1 slate tile backsplash
refinshing our hardwood flooring
planning and installing a backyard fence (we even got Grandma to come in town and work the auger for this one)
installing a dropzone / cubby
finishing over 500 square feet of basement space
tiling a basement shower (again, vowing to never tile a shower again)
installing a fence in the backyard
tiling a laundry room
installing custom cabinets, counters and cubby space in the laundry room
painting master bath cabinets
2010 Home #3: Franklin, TN: Independent Adventures!
Our family of 5 packed up and headed north to TN. Yes, we left our built-in babysitters, our less than 6 hour drive to the beach and 1.5 in-car movie trip to the in-laws to try out an independent adventure and professional opportunity for Jason! This time we built semi-custom! Here we met wonderful new friends, found amazing schools and welcomed baby #4, our "Caboose", into our family. While living in this home, our neighbors said, "What are y'all doing, didn't you build new and with everything you wanted in your house?" Sort of, but we still found ourselves:
designing, building and installing custom master closet
screening a covered porch
building a porch swing
staining concrete front porch
making rustic picture frames
building custom built-ins for the living room
prepping land and laying sod
2015 Home #4: Franklin, TN: First Time Flippers!
Keeping the kids in the same schools, we packed up and headed to the other side of the interstate. This is where some our most amazing before and afters began! Projects included:
kitchen design, project management, and renovation
master bath design, project management, and renovation
tiling galore
building and installing IKEA kitchen and bathroom cabinets
hardwood flooring installation and finishing
tree removal
stair installation
drop zone / cubby design and build
2016 Home #5: Franklin, TN: We are Flipping!
With only 3 bedrooms in Home #4, we really needed more space and Home #5 fulfilled those needs. In Home #5 we found ourselves:
deconstructing, designing, and renovating a kitchen
building and installing Ikea kitchen cabinets
deconstructing, designing, and renovating a master bathroom
removing a stained glass window
installing a fixed window
building and installing barn doors
installing tile backsplash and floors
installing overhead lighting
building custom dropzone / cubby
installing shiplap
installing custom molding in the dining room
2017 Home #6: Franklin, TN: The Present!
